Defuniak Springs information:
Around 1882 a new rail line boosted the prospects of a small community in northwest Florida.
Eventually the town, rail station, and nearby lake would all bear the name of L&N employee
Frederick deFuniak.
The town, known today as Defuniak Springs, is the county seat of Walton county Florida.
The old rail station, now owned by the city, has become a museum.
And spring-fed Lake Defuniak, one of the more perfectly round lakes in the world, remains perpetually gorgeous.
Interesting architecture, along Circle Drive, surrounds Lake Defuniak.
To have a look, the museum is a good starting point.
And the historic homes are very nice, but don't miss the oldest Florida library or the Chautauqua building.
One can spend a few pleasurable hours checking it all out.
