Defuniak Springs, county seat

Defuniak Springs, Florida, the county seat of Walton county, was built from an economy of agriculture, timber, and wood related products. The distinct rural charm is still evident today and there is a significant amount of farming and ranching in the immediate area. In the early 1900s Defuniak Springs was also perceived as an intellectual mecca.

Modern demographic research will show you that the schools are considered good, the crime relatively low, plenty of medical care is available, and the living is fairly easy. A good portion of today's local residents are outdoor sportsmen. There are numerous freshwater lakes in the area. and the Gulf of Mexico is less than 45 minutes away. For those fishermen living here it is possible to fish for fresh water pan fish in the morning and catch salt water mackerel in the afternoon For the chase, white tailed deer, wild turkey, wild boar, and many other species of small game are plentiful. Die hard hunters and fishermen consider the area a paradise.
